The Evaluation of the Audio Project

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
The Jingle I have made is catchy which is what the main aspect of the jingle is. The jingle itself is memorable but won’t stick until you heard it the second or third time as there are a lot of loops in there. It is memorable thought after hearing the jingle a couple of times as it is quite catchy and not boring. I think it will do the job of instantly remind the listener of the station of the programme they tuned into. The Jingle that I’ve create does match the kinds of music the station is broadcasting, that is way I have a catchy song all about facts of life which is what the radio station is based on facts and figures. The Jingle I have made is a short piece bit of music that occur during programme or news bulleting to signal transition from one section to another. I believe it is a good Jingle/start of a radio show, as there is no silence, it is interesting and the jingle is catchy.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My media product represents mainly teenagers up to about 24 – 25. There is no other radio station like it in Jersey so has a niche market for it. The closest competition is either radio 1, although that has affairs about England not about Jersey and also Radio Jersey, which is generally for the older generation not for students. A young modern radio station with some current affairs around the world, facts and figures, gossip, education and job offers and dates is what the show will mainly be about as that is what young people generally like to hear. Songs will be mainly be decided by the audience by text messages. Guests will be either celebrates interviewed in the UK or over here ion Jersey. I believe it does represent this social group as all the things said and the songs played will be what my social groups want to hear.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Well this is generally aimed at Schools and colleges who are doing GCSE’s or above. It will serve as a form of entertainment radio channel with career advertisements and big parties such as timings and dates on a fire work display or bomb fire night or possible cancellations. The radio station can just be on in lunch time or in a common room some where. This will be a great success I think, this is because advertisement can bring money to be on the air and once it is in all the schools, it is a perfect way to communicate with thousands of people ready for employment, invitations and major events.

Who would be the audience for your media product?
The main target audience is any class ABC1 C2DF between 10 to 24-25. But any one can listen, as it might interest them as well finding out gossip, dates, facts and career opportunities.

How did you attract/address your audience?
To attract my audience, the use of important dates, such as the new shopping mall opening, which everybody wants to know and when music artists are playing in Jersey. Also with that, these types of facts, dates, and figures and of course gossip and news would attract my target audience.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
Personally, I have learnt a lot with this program. Even if you are not very musical, you can still come out with a very good product at the end. With all the functions and editing you can do with the program, its amazing what you can do with it. The program itself is very easy to use and although there are lots of functions, they are all easy to use and hear clearly what difference it makes.

Planning my Script

This took a while as I had to write it out just so everything flowed well, and there were no stops or silence with in the show, as that will challenge one of the forms of conventions. The script goes as follows:

Alex "Good Morning and welcome to the Jersey Events Radio Show, i'm Alex Pinel and today its all about facts and dates to put into your dairy. With opening of the Castle Key with shops and night clubs, the new Shopping Centre with shops shops and more shops and not forgetting the Water Splash with their new refurbilished night club.

In the studio to day please welcome the one and only Jonny Burnstein"

Jonny: " Hey every one"

Alex: " Good morning Jonny, you are on this show today to talk about theses places and what they have to offer when they finally open.
But before that, You'll find out all these facts abd dates after this ....

Alex: (song starts) " Facts of life by Lazy boy"

That is the final script of what i'll say.

Target Research

I put some time and research into doing a survey of what would be a suitable name for the radio station. This will be important, as if the name is not easy to say and sounds weird or not catchy then this will decrease the market audience for the radio station. As the target audience is for young people aged roughly between 13 - 24 in Jersey, it is good to start of with a good name as the reputation is key my the success as words can get around very quickly in Jersey.

In my survey, 100 people took part as I think that number would give me accurate figure to interpret my results.
  1. Jersey Audio
  2. Facts and Events
  3. Jersey Events
  4. Jersey Life
The four names above are the names that would best suit my radio station. The survey will hopefully tell me which one would be the best name in the eyes of my target audience. They are all to do with Jersey and its Youth targeting from 13 - 24 years of age and the results are shown below.

From the graph above, it clear shows what the i should call my radio station. it is a clear margin between all the other names so my radio staion will be called
the JERSEY EVENTS RADIO SHOW!

Making of the Jingle

That finishes of the making of the audio project, with the four elements inputed in my project,
They are :

An introductory jingle
A presenter, introducing the show, themselves and welcoming their guest
The guest's response
The archive sound clip, relating to the guest.

At the end of the volume stage of the jingle, I put the song on at the end, higlighted in orange. This finishes of the porject very well as it links into the discussion of what was said on the talking part of the project.

After putting the clips, loops and jingles all in the right places, you have to adjuct the volume so the audio does nbot get distorted when finally played on the air. as you can see abive, the blue area under each sub title is the volume, and can be adjusted at every stage. this took along time.

After choosing some tunes and loops, I put them together to make a jingle that agreed with all the cold and conventions. As you can see, on the left hand side there is a list of boxes, one of them highlighted. these are all the different types of instruments and audio that are in my project.

By going through all of these sub titles abive here, it is easy to hunt down the type of jingle you are after. on the far right of the picture it will give you a list os all the possibilities there are for what type of genre you want for the audio production. I went for a mix between Cheerful, drum kit, guiters and Ensamble to find all the loops and short tunes to produce my Jingle.

This is what the screen shot looks like when you have just opened Garage Band. This is what you start with and can progress from here. The first thing I did was to have a look through the programme to have a look at the loops and sound mixes, to give me an idea of what my jingle would sound like. Also thinking about the codes and conventions of making an audio production.

Garage Band is the programme in which I made my audio jingle. It is capable of many different functions and can produce some amazing Jingles from loops and short tunes that are on the programme.
Garage band is has so many functions to control editing, volume and speech. Which is very handy for a radio show. It allows a non - musical person to build a song with the many loops and clips it has to offer to finally give a good song.
